MUSICAL DIRECTOR Matthias Wilke

Prussia's Court Music, the chamber orchestra series of the Staatskapelle Berlin, has been in existence for almost two decades, focusing on music from the 17th and 18th centuries, not least composers and works that are particularly linked to the history of the Staatsoper and the Staatskapelle.

In the anniversary season of Prussia's court music, the focus is on the ensemble Johann Sebastian Bach, who was greatly revered by King Frederick II of Prussia, whose sons were temporarily active in Berlin and whose momentous Renaissance originated largely in Berlin. Inspired secular and sacred cantatas by Bach can be heard, as well as well-known instrumental music such as the astonishing art of the fugue.
