Peter Tschaikowsky

With the Opera Children's Orchestra, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Staatskapelle Berlin complement the great commitment of the music schools in the state of Berlin and enable around 90 children between the ages of 7 and 13 to have unique experiences on an internationally renowned stage every year.

In the music schools, the children learn the concert program in instrumental lessons and come together for vocal rehearsals in the State Opera, where they are supported by members of the Staatskapelle and music teachers from the music schools.

Under the musical direction of Giuseppe Mentuccia, all individual voices are formed into a common orchestral sound. Over a period of nine months, the children regularly expand their musical skills and learn how to take responsibility as part of a large group and create music together.

At the end, the Opera Children's Orchestra, together with renowned artists, will play several moderated concerts for school classes and families in the Great Hall of the State Opera. In this way, the children learn musical literature that is usually played by professional orchestras, experience the operation of an opera house up close and are given the opportunity to grow through the challenges of playing in an orchestra.
