Young Euro Classic 2024

The National Youth Philharmonic of Turkey has remarkable qualities, as its numerous performances in the concert hall show: it plays at an outstanding level and conveys intense Mediterranean passion. Founder and artistic director, Cem Mansur, is known for diverse programs that also include innovations.

For their performance at Young Euro Classic 2024, Cem Mansur commissioned Turkish composer Ege Gür to create a new work dedicated to the victims of the 2023 earthquake disaster.

The focus of the evening are excerpts from the two orchestral suites from Sergei Prokofiev's enchanting ballet music "Romeo and Juliet", which impressively summarize the dramatic events. As a counterpart, the program presents Hector Berlioz's dramatic symphony "Romeo et Juliette", which was composed 100 years ago about the famous lovers in world history.

And Russian music is also represented in the evening's solo concert: Sergei Rachmaninov's Paganini Rhapsody, his masterful variations on the well-known theme from the Italian violin virtuoso's Caprices.
