Jazz from the Evangelical Hymnal

The “Jazz & Church Music” program consists of well-known chorales

from the Evangelical Hymnal by the young Berlin pianist

Kenneth Berkel used it as a basis for his jazz arrangements.

Included he has the melodies of songs like “I sing to you with my heart and

Mouth” (EG 324), “A strong fortress is our God” (EG 362) or

“Preserve us, God” (EG 171) used to start from this writing arrangements.

The audience can expect an exciting mix of well-known melodies that the audience has often heard and a refreshingly new rhythmic and harmonic language - and everyone will be amazed at how much jazz there is in the Evangelical Hymnal.
