An event of the Berliner Festspiele / Musikfest Berlin

Despite its popularity, Dmitri Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony is often misunderstood. So who better than Klaus Mäkelä to bring this piece by the Soviet artist to the stage in a new interpretation? Two years ago, the young conductor celebrated his furious debut with the Royal Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam and is now back with the Oslo Philharmonic. In the Berlin Philharmonie, he brings Shostakovich into dialogue with the bird voices of Einojuhani Rautavaara.
