At the end of the 17th century, there was no longer any talk of a specifically 'French style', as this had become increasingly integrated into the prevailing 'Italian style'. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Marin Marais did not allow himself to be influenced by this development, but instead wrote music that followed the works of his role model and teacher Jean-Baptiste Lully.

Georg Philipp Telemann's oeuvre spans all genres and styles. The twelve viol fantasias were considered lost until they were rediscovered in 2015.
