Since the late 1970s, Matt Johnson has been continuously working on his musical work under the name The The. As the only permanent member of the collective, he has constantly reinvented himself over the years.

During this time he has worked with a variety of well-known (such as Johnny Marr, Neneh Chery, Marc Almond, Gail Ann Dorsey, Sinéad O'Connor, etc.) and lesser-known musicians. His work has earned him a reputation as a bold and uncompromising artist who tackles dark themes while also making socio-political commentary.

In between, The The took a break, which ended with the “The Comeback Special” tour in 2018 and new releases. It is certainly no coincidence that the word “soul” appears again and again in The The’s long history.

From Matt Johnson's neo-psychedelic 1981 debut album "Burning Blue Soul" to the evolving musicality of its 1983 follow-up "Soul Mining" to the name of the "Ensouled World" tour that will bring The The back into the spotlight in 2024 and Johnson and his crew to Berlin for a concert in September.
