Semi-staged performance with sophisticated lighting direction

This year's Lehnin Summer Music comes to its crowning conclusion with the performance of the semi-opera "King Arthur". The work, first performed in London in 1691, is a collaboration between English national poet John Dryden and composer Henry Purcell, and proved a groundbreaking success on the stage.

Inspired by the legend of King Arthur and his mentor, the magician Merlin, "King Arthur" takes viewers into a world full of kings, wizards and enchanted forests in which the British and Saxons fight for dominance on the British Isles.

"King Arthur" impresses with its virtuoso choirs and famous arias such as the "Frost Aria", complemented by rousing dance music. In the monastery church, the work can be experienced in a semi-staged performance under the direction of Gerhard Oppelt with sophisticated lighting direction.
