In an atmospheric night concert, four young musicians from the “Jeune Esprit” ensemble dedicate themselves to works by Johann Sebastian Bach. The focus of the program is the trio sonata from the “Musical Offering”, combined with other chamber music works by Bach, some of which have been newly arranged.

In May 1747, Johann Sebastian Bach visited Frederick the Great at court in Potsdam. A musical gathering took place at which Bach improvised a three-part fugue on a theme played by the king. However, when a six-part fugue was requested, Bach had to give up, but promised to complete the work in his homeland.

Back in Leipzig he developed a fugue for three and six voices from the “royal theme”. He supplemented it with a series of canons and a trio sonata. Bach dedicated these compositions to the king and titled them “Musical Sacrifice”.

The ensemble “Jeune Esprit” presents movements from the “Musical Sacrifice”.
