Dawid Tomaszewski: A Decade and a Half

To mark a major donation from the Polish-German fashion designer Dawid Tomaszewski, the Kunstgewerbemuseum is showing sketches by the couturier spanning the last 15 years.

After stints with Sonia Rykiel in Paris and Comme des Garçons in Tokyo, in 2009, the Berlin-based fashion designer launched his own label. From the outset, his creations were situated at the intersections between couture and commerce. While he designed painstakingly produced couture pieces for the runway, with his collections for QVC, he made clothing for a broad public. T
his two-pronged production enabled him to give his imagination free reign when it came to his couture designs. Leading to dresses and suits adorned with crystals, dramatically draped evening gowns, and extraordinary mixes of materials.

By showcasing his collections, designs, accessories, drawings and photographs, this exhibition looks at Dawid Tomaszewski as a person and as a fashion designer, showing a piece of design history that is very much “made in Berlin”.
