Exhibition extension for blind and sighted people

Exhibition extension for blind and sighted people: Five architectural models in the Nikolaikirche Museum make the shape of the monument comprehensible for blind, visually impaired and sighted people.

As fixed components of the museum's permanent exhibition, the high-quality 3-D models allow visitors to get an idea of the architecture, the exterior design and the interior of the building at two locations in the church.

This also reveals the connection between aesthetics and functionality in the individual architectural elements. Audio texts provide historical context and offer explanations as well as orientation on the models.
In this way, they guide both the touching hands of blind people and the eyes of sighted people, which are sharpened by the explanations.

  • The project was initiated and accompanied by students of the part-time Master's programme Protection of European Cultural Heritage at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder).
  • The exhibition extension was also developed and optimised in close cooperation with blind and visually impaired people from Berlin.
