After the German-language premiere in 1998 at the Renaissance Theater, Judy Winter was celebrated as Marlene in countless performances. Now there is a reunion with Sven Ratzke in the title role, who breathes a new soul into the myth and its songs.

“Marlene Dietrich wandered between the sexes and showed enormous courage in her stubbornness and absolute perfectionism. Trapped in fame and lost in a fictional character of her own making. I look into the mirror she holds up to our time and all artists, see myself and look for her. What a challenge!”

The congenial partner on the grand piano is Jetse de Jong, who, together with Sven Ratzke, completely reinterprets the music and musically directs the evening. Julia Herfst takes on the role of Marlene's indispensable companion Viv. Guntbert Warns directs this new version of the Pam Gems classic with sets by Ezio Toffolutti.

MARLENE is a production of the Renaissance Theater Berlin, with a tour planned in the Netherlands from late February to early May 2024, followed by further guest performances in New York.
