Germany's Oldest and Largest Sports Collection
Please note: The Berlin Sports Museum in the Olympic Park is closed until the end of 2025 due to renovation work and preparations for future permanent and special exhibitions.
The Berlin Sports Museum in the Olympic Park is the oldest sports museum in Germany. In 1995, it became an integral part of the Stadtmuseum Foundation and has been located in the Olympiapark Berlin since 1997. With more than 100,000 objects and around 1.5 million images, the museum has the largest sports collection in Germany. The library contains around 37,000 volumes of sports history literature, including all the journals of German sports associations in East and West from 1945/46 to 1989.
The Sportmuseum Berlin is concerned with the significance of sport in Berlin, German and transnational history through research, education, the collection and various exhibitions. In addition, guided tours and depot tours are offered in the Olympic Park.
The museum is intended to be a dynamic place for discussion, participation and experiencing the complex and diverse history of sport.
