Lindwerder island

Paradise on two hectares

The small island – just two hectares (5 acres) in size – on the banks of the Havel in Grunewald forest takes its name from the lime tree (there are more than 50 of them on the island). A landowner discovered the island at the end of the 19th century and bought it. Lindwerder rapidly developed into a popular sport for day trips. Even today there is still a famous weekend restaurant – together with a yacht club – on the island. To reach the island from Grunewald you have to call over a small ferry with a bell while standing on the jetty.
