Theater O-TonArt

Chanson evenings, mini-musicals, musical cabaret, concerts, drama, and queer comedy are all a part of the varied programme at Theater O-TonArt in Berlin's Schöneberg district. The theatre is decorated with club chairs, tables, and upholstered chairs, with room just for 74, making for an intimate theatre space.

But don't be misled: although the O-TonArt is in a rear courtyard, this is not a fringe theatre, but instead a programmatic theatre, in fact, the only one in Schöneberg.

The programme is always full and offers a mix of guest performances by known celebrities (including Tim Fischer, the Geschwister Pfister, Irmgard Knef, Meret Becker, and Felix Martin), evenings with popular themes and composers, or impressive young artists.

History of Theatre O-TonArt: once nomadic, now Schöneberg

After ten years of nomadic wandering on German and international stages, the O-TonPiraten finally opened their own tiny theatre in Schöneberg in 2010 with the support of their friends and public.

The venue is a former print shop in a typical Schöneberg rear courtyard in the Kulm neighbourhood right between Nollendorfplatz and Bergmannstraße. Even if the "O-TonPiraten" are no longer wandering, their members are still on the boards and working behind stage.

With around 180 performances a year, O-TonArt has since gained a wide reputation as a cabaret. Each year, two new productions are added to the repertoire, but the theatre remains an insider tip on Berlin's cultural scene.
