
Curtain up: Berlin's stages, operas and concert halls have a full program for the coming season. This fall, you can experience Herheim's production of the Ring at the Deutsche Oper. And the theaters that played for you outdoors over the summer will continue their programs seamlessly. Look forward to classics and exciting modern adaptations of novels. Tip 1: Deutsche Oper Berlin shows Herheim's production of the Ring

To kick off the season, Deutsche Oper transforms the parking deck into a stage. The program includes "Best of: Carmen" and "Greek. Then, starting in November, you can experience three complete cycles of Stefan Herheim's modern production of the Ring.

Tip 2: The German Symphony Orchestra celebrates its birthday

The German Symphony Orchestra (Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester), founded in 1946 by the Radio in the American Sector (RIAS), has been in existence for 75 years. For the anniversary concert, Robin Ticciati conducts orchestral pieces by Vaughan Williams, Strauss and Dvořák, but the program also includes improvisations on the past and the future.
When: Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20, at 8 p.m.

Tip 3: The Philharmonie invites you to the Welcome Back Week

This year, the Berliner Philharmoniker is celebrating the start of the new season with a full week of programming. Look forward to an eclectic Welcome Back Week with jazz, chamber music and a concert with Kirill Petrenko at the famous Waldbühne Berlin.
When: August 21 - 26

Tip 4: Cameron Carpenter plays with the Konzerthausorchester
To open the season, the Konzerthausorchester will perform Bach, Brahms and Carl Maria von Weber's Concert Piece for Piano and Orchestra. Joining them will be Martin Helmchen on piano and Cameron Carpenter on organ. Also on the program is XYLO for orchestra, a work commissioned by the Konzerthaus from Samir Odeh-Tamini. Immediately following the season opening is the large open-air concert on Saturday evening, August 28, at 6 pm on the Gendarmenmarkt. The program includes the Freischütz Overture, the Italian Symphony by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and the Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra by Poulenc.

Tip 5: State Opera for All (Staatsoper für alle) on Bebelplatz

In addition to the large open-air concert of the Staatskapelle Berlin, this year's "Staatsoper für alle" will also include a live broadcast of the new production of "Le nozze die Figaoro" on Bebelplatz. At the same time, the opera will be performed in front of an audience in the great hall of the State Opera. Tickets are free and can be booked from the beginning of September.

Tip 6: Flashlight concert at the Waldbühne in Berlin

For many families it's a tradition: the flashlight concert (Taschenlampenkonzert) with Rumpelstil at Berlin's Waldbühne. Pack your blankets, thermos flasks and flashlights to say goodbye to summer with the swinging, rocking band. And of course you can not only light up but also dance and sing along loudly!
When: Saturday, September 25 at 7 pm

Tip 7: The Friedrichstadt-Palast celebrates the power of love

Friedrichstadt-Palast celebrates the new season with the new Grand Show ARISE - Love is stronger than time. This visually powerful hymn to the undying power of love tells the story of the photographer Cameron, who loses his muse. And yet, as he looks sadly at his pictures, they magically come back to life.
When: from August 10

Tip 8: The Komische Oper Berlin presents eleven new productions

The Komische Oper starts the 2021/22 season with eleven new productions, eight symphony concerts and much more. In the Œdipe production by Russian director Evgeny Titov, you will experience British baritone Leigh Melrose, a specialist in 20th century opera. The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is told in two versions at once, once as an Offenbach operetta and in the classical version by Christoph Willibald Gluck.

Tip 9: The Gorki Theater adapts novels & life stories

New productions are on the program at the Gorki Theater, such as Streulicht, a melancholy coming-of-age story based on the debut novel by Deniz Ohde, or the novel adaptation of 1000 Serpentines Angstby Olivia Wenzel, in which the protagonist - a young woman born in the GDR - jumps through time and space and the stage set changes as if flipping through an old photo album.

Tip 10: Deutsches Theater

Throughout the summer, the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater has performed open air on the forecourt and in the courtyard. And now it continues indoors, with a premiere of Sophocles' Oedipus, Strindberg's Miss Julie.

Tip 11: Schaubühne

The Schaubühne has played through the entire summer break - and is moving seamlessly into the new season. This begins on September 4 with "Kein Weltuntergang" (No End of the World) and poses the question of whether the end of civilization can still be stopped. Equally current is the adaptation of the novel "Eurotrash" by Christian Kracht. And the Festival Internationale Neue Dramatik (FIND), which had to be cancelled twice, will finally take place in 2021!
