Located directly on the Spree River, the landmarked Arena area is now one of the most visited event venues in the capital. 

What you can expect in the Arena Berlin

Whether trade fair, conference, concert, club night or TV production, whether flea market, festival or street food - in the Arena Berlin there is room for many different event formats.

The centerpiece of the area is the 6,500-square-meter Arena Halle. Built in 1927 according to the plans of the imperial building councilor Franz Ahrens, the largest cantilever hall in Europe at the time is now an impressive industrial monument.

In total, there are six different venues on the 20,000-square-meter site:

• Dance at the Arena Club. The venerable Kesselhaus was already part of Berlin's club culture at the birth of techno.
• Enjoy a drink on the sun deck of the Escobar.
• The Arena Halle regularly hosts trade shows and conferences.
• The open air area, as well as numerous other adjoining rooms offer plenty of additional space for lectures and conferences during events. In addition, festivals and food markets are regularly held on the open-air grounds.
• The Glashaus is one of the most beautiful, historic event locations in Berlin. Enjoy concerts, readings and other events with a view of the Spree.
• In summer, jump into the cool water of the bathing ship and enjoy the view of the Spree, Oberbaum Bridge and TV Tower

Events with an industrial charm

The site of the Arena Berlin has been used for different purposes in the past. Originally built as a bus depot for the Berlin transport authority in 1927 it became an arsenal during the Nazi era. Its location beside the Berlin Wall meant that it was no longer accessible and it was finally closed by the Berlin transport authority shortly after reunification.

Renovation work started in the 1990s and today the Arena Berlin is one of the most important event locations in the city. 9,000 people can dance, enjoy festivals and hold conferences in the hall.

Over the years, the Arena has expanded and added more locations. The Arena’s Glashaus is a club, theatre and café all rolled into one and housed in a former turning shop. The glazed façade gives visitors a view of the Spree.

You can get a whiff of a sea breeze on the club and restaurant ship the MS Hoppetosse. It is anchored on the banks of the Spree. Next to it is the bathing boat, which has become one of the capital’s trademarks. The icy blue pool is housed on a former container ship. Bathers can access it via a wooden jetty that connects the bathing boat with a fine-grained sandy beach.

Visitors can also enjoy techno nights in the Arena Club in the former boiler house or cocktail evenings in the Escobar.

Treptow’s party district

It is not only the clubs and concert halls directly on the Arena site that invite you to let your hair down. The Club der Visionäre and Freischwimmer are just a few metres away directly by the Landwehr Canal. Universal and MTV have offices on the opposite side of the Spree in Berlin’s eastern harbour.

Travel and parking at the Arena

Particularly when concerts are on, we recommend you travel with either S-Bahn or U-Bahn, for example with the U1 to Schlesisches Tor or with the S41/S42 circular line to Treptower Park. There are buses between the two stations that run along Schlesische Straße; you can also walk. Parking spaces are largely reserved for local residents.
