Buddhistisches Haus
Pure tranquillity
In Frohnau you can find the oldest Buddhist temple in Europe. Dip into the calming world of Buddhism.
“Everyone’s invited, everyone is welcome…” to visit this secluded place of far-eastern spirituality. The Berlin physician and author Paul Dahlke had the Buddhistisches Haus built on the highest point in Frohnau between 1922 and 1924 for the Buddhist community he had founded. It was regarded as the most important Buddhist site in western Europe and is still a centre of the Buddhist religion.
Step in through the elephant gate and ascend the 73 steps and eight platforms that symbolise the Buddha’s eightfold path to enlightenment. At the top is the house with a comprehensive library, temple and charming garden.
The temple and the library are open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. As well as regular meditation courses, guided tours and presentations are also offered. Admission is free and the silence in the temple is very relaxing. Learn about and understand the slogan of the Buddhistisches Haus: “What we do, everyone may see. What we say, everyone may hear. What we think, everyone may know. (Dr. Paul Dahlke).“
