Harness racing is the supreme discipline among horse betting. From as little as one euro, you can join in the excitement. Exciting races take place at the Karlshorst trotting track all year round. The main race days are Friday and Sunday. Special family racing days offer a colourful supporting programme for children.

Even away from the racing days, Karlshorst trotting track offers entertainment for the whole family: you can try out the trotting driving school and take sulky driving lessons. You can also celebrate children's birthdays at the racecourse. Cocoa, cake, horseshoe throwing and, of course, riding are included on these occasions.

Horse racing tradition since 1884

The Karlshorst racecourse opened in 1884. Obstacle races were initially organised, but harness racing has only been held here since the Second World War. In 1945, the Soviet city commander Colonel General Bersarin had the facility converted into a harness racing track and almost doubled its size. During the GDR era, the facility was operated by the state-owned company Trabergestüte und Trabrennbahn.

In order to preserve the dilapidated racecourse after German reunification, part of the site was sold after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and some of the stable buildings, the casino and the indoor riding arena were demolished. The remaining almost four square kilometres are now managed by the Equestrian Sports Park Berlin-Karlshorst e.V. association. The success of its work is reflected in rising visitor numbers, increasing betting turnover and the appearance of sponsors. From the very beginning, the concept was "people-orientated" and geared towards the masses of visitors. Today, for example, you can buy shares in racehorses for little money and become a horse owner for pocket money.

The antique flea market

Antiques and art: One highlight is the antique flea market, which takes place regularly every 1st Saturday (and Sunday) at the Berlin-Karlshorst harness racing track. Here you can browse for rare design pieces or valuable vintage furniture and works of art.

Events at the Karlshorst trotting track

The open and large area near the Berlin-Karlshorst S-Bahn station also offers the perfect backdrop for folk festivals and parties. A 90s party or the Zombie Run have already been held on the site. Another sporting highlight was the 2013 World Championships for Icelandic Horses, which attracted up to 13,000 visitors a day.
