Olicía is the band project of the two multi-instrumentalists Fama M’Boup and Anna-Lucia Rupp. They currently live in Berlin and Leipzig.

Olicía's music moves in the field of tension between the human voice, acoustic instruments, free improvisation and the use of modern electronic possibilities. At some point they gave the whole thing the genre name "electronic handmade loop jazz".

Fragmented, electroid soul, playful, multilingual global pop, fragile folk moments and an approach to improvisation borrowed from jazz within a fixed structure.

They combine all these disparate elements in astonishingly concise, direct and emotional pop songs. Everything that can be heard on stage is created in the moment, nothing is pre-produced.

With their debut double album "Liquid Lines" (2021) they were nominated for the German Jazz Prize. In 2022, both released a (solo) album each: the indie a cappella album "in June" (book+CD) by Fama M'Boup and the album "Figures Afloat" (LP/CD) by the chamber pop band Nouk around Anna-Lucia Rupp.

They release their music on their own label. In addition, both were part of the live band for Sophie Hunger's last album "Halluzinationen" and in 2023 they developed and performed the music for the multimedia theater performance "reality warping" for Jasmine Ellis Projects.

Fama M'Boup is part of Kat Frankie's B O D I E S collective. "Ich und Du" has also just been released, a collaboration with Dota Kehr as part of her Mascha Kaléko settings.

Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue is a cycle of songs and corresponding works of art that emerge from a dialogue. From conversation and exchange between the two musicians from Olicía and artists from other disciplines - painting, fashion, design, dance, literature, film and arts and crafts.

The works are created using the ping-pong principle and gradually and playfully find their final form. The focus is on learning from each other, borrowing principles, working methods and materials. From an initial exchange of ideas and feelings and their initially vague and imprecise formulation, the partners on both sides gradually transfer the process into points and notes, shapes and chords, textures, patterns, configurations and designs.

In the end, two distinct works of art stand side by side on equal terms, complementing each other, commenting on each other or sometimes perhaps just pursuing similar ideas while moving in very different directions.
