Live demonstration of mechanical musical instruments in the special exhibition »Musica di Strada«
Before gramophones and radio made music accessible to the masses, only mechanical instruments made it possible to enjoy music without musicians. Play pianos and orchestrions stood in restaurants and ballrooms. The barrel organ - the "hurdy-gurdy" - was found in the streets, in backyards and at fairgrounds. Here hurdy-gurdy men and women played popular hits and brought music to the city.
Immerse yourself in this bygone era and experience the sound of mechanical musical instruments in a one-hour live performance.
An event accompanying the special exhibition “Musica di strada: Italians in Prenzlauer Berg. Trade, Crafts & Music«.
