Tetyana Filevska’s lecture is dedicated to the painter and stage designer Alexandra Exter. Born in Białystok (Russian Empire) in 1882, the versatile artist lived in Paris for a long time, where she died in 1949. There she was a lively part of the avant-garde artistic circles.

Strongly influenced by Suprematism and her friendships with Kasimir Malevich and Vladimir Tatlin, she created a body of work characterised by abstract formal compositions.

Today, she is recognised as one of the most influential artists of her time.

The exhibition features reconstructions of marionettes that she exhibited in Herwarth Walden’s gallery Der Sturm in 1927.
