Workshop with experts on traditional Korean handicrafts

In collaboration with renowned masters of Korean handicrafts, including a master seamstress and a traditional hat maker who hold the title of "National Intangible Cultural Heritage Holder" in Korea, the Korean Cultural Center offers a unique insight into the fascinating world of traditional Korean handicrafts.


Participants in this workshop will have the rare opportunity to experience and learn first-hand the art of hat-making (making the traditional hat "gat" worn by scholars) and the making of mini hanbok bojagi (wrap with miniature hanbok as decoration). They can also make various handicrafts themselves with an experienced instructor of the craft of "gyubang gongye".

Guest lecturers:

Young-sook, KIM: As a national bearer of the intangible cultural heritage in the art of sewing, she preserves and spreads Korean culture through traditional hanboks and sewing.

Hyung Park, PARK: He is the fifth generation to continue making gat, having learned the techniques from his father and teacher Chang-young Park, the national bearer of intangible cultural heritage No. 4.

‑︎Damhee, KIM: An artist and lecturer who learned the traditional craft of "Gyubang Gongye" in Korea and is now working in the field of arts and crafts in Germany

The lessons for making the mini-gat will take place over a period of 3 days.

Note: The workshop on making a traditional Korean hat (mini-gat) will use fire.
