The ‘Festival for Urban Wellbeing...around the Mäusebunker’ will take place from 12 to 22 September 2024 and will offer a diverse and free programme of cultural and artistic events. The Mäusebunker in Steglitz-Lichterfelde will become a cultural neighbourhood meeting place to explore healthy living in urban spaces.

Together with over thirty urban stakeholders, the Verein für Urbane Praxis is asking: How can the Mäusebunker site, with its iconic brutalist building, be reimagined as a place for urban well-being?

Urbane Praxis e.V. is celebrating the ‘Festival for Urban Wellbeing...around the Mäusebunker’ on the surrounding terraces of the former animal testing facility in Berlin Lichterfelde, together with the neighbourhood, artists, city-makers and many other stakeholders.

A colourful, free programme!

There is plenty to experience around the Mäusebunker for two weeks. What's on the agenda?
Whether it's a mini golf tournament, community jogging, cooking together with local plants, numerous workshops, exhibitions and talks, there is something for everyone.

With a diverse, free programme of participatory activities, discussions and experiments, the open spaces around the Mäusebunker will be opened up and jointly activated in creative, cultural and social terms.

Urban Wellbeing at the Mäusebunker

The festival addresses social, physical, psychological and environmental well-being and brings together a network of urban design and local stakeholders to explore artistic, socio-cultural and civic impulses for the further development of the site and its surroundings.
The open spaces will remain open during the day not only during the festival but until the end of September, offering space to linger and relax.

It offers the opportunity to catch a new glimpse of the site and the future of a healthy city. An information kiosk will be available on the site throughout the entire period to answer questions and provide information.

Background to the festival

Since 2019, there have been intensive discussions about the preservation and possible reuse of the research facility for experimental medicine (Mäusebunker) in Steglitz-Lichterfelde. Due to its iconic design, many people are committed to preserving the building, which is now a listed building.
