In the U19 DFB youth league, Bundesliga clubs and amateur clubs compete together in one league from the start. The best teams, up to eleven from the second highest divisions, qualify directly for the main round after the first half of the season.

Clubs without a performance center are rewarded for their success in the preliminary round and are given the opportunity to compete at a higher sporting level. The aim is to better promote young players in order to increase creativity, enjoyment of the game and performance.
For the 2025/2026 season, the DFB Cup for juniors in the U19 age group will be expanded to 64 teams, similar to the DFB Cup for men.
