At the end of June 2024, the Berlin Museum of European Cultures will open the special exhibition "Auf die Berge! Tiroler Gipfelgeschichten". In Tyrol, the mountains not only characterise the landscape, but also the identity and way of life of the people. A material and immaterial culture influenced by the mountains has developed there that is constantly evolving.

The fascination of the mountains has also made the Alpine region a tourist magnet for more than 100 years. At the beginning of the 20th century, a new railway connection attracted countless Berliners to Tyrol.
The mass tourism that continues to this day and the infrastructure that has been built for it have had a profound impact on the landscape and jeopardise the sensitive mountain ecosystem.
The exhibition explores more sustainable approaches to travelling in times of climate change and juxtaposes historical objects with contemporary Tyrolean perspectives.
A dense four-week programme of concerts, readings, culinary events and talks will offer insights into Tyrolean traditions and innovations during the 20th European Cultural Days.
