Human rights of women in the focus of the film

From 23 to 29 October 2024, the 24th FrauenWelten film festival will be held at the KulturBrauerei Berlin cinema, where international films on the topic of women's rights will once again be presented.

The aim of the feminist film festival is to highlight grievances in the field of women's rights through cinematic representation, to empower girls and women and to promote social commitment to women's rights.

Women's Worlds Film Festival Highlights 2024:

  • The opening film THE BRINK OF DREAMS is an Egyptian documentary by Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir, which celebrated its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024 and is now being shown as a Berlin premiere.
  • Another highlight is THE WITNESS by Nader Saeivar. The film tells the story of a former dance teacher who witnesses her friend being murdered by her husband.
  • The documentary film WE ARE FIRE by Karen Vázquez Guadarrama sheds light on the dangerous reality for women in Mexico and the rebellion of a young artist against it.

This year, actress and singer Jasmin Tabatabai will be the patron of the 24th FrauenWelten Film Festival and will enrich the festival with her support. In addition to her work in film and television, she is known for her commitment to social justice. ‘Films that look at the world through the eyes of a woman (and other marginalised people) are still not a matter of course. That's why I'm delighted to be the patron of this special film festival, which focuses on precisely that,’ explains Jasmin Tabatabai.

The screenings will be accompanied by a supporting programme as well as audience discussions and panel discussions with experts and directors.

TERRE DES FEMMES, a human rights organisation, has been organising the annual Women's Worlds Film Festival since 2001, which takes a look at the global human rights situation of women. A careful selection of current short, feature and documentary films from various countries focuses on the situation of women's rights in different cultures and offers around 4,000 viewers each year new perspectives and approaches to the respective topics.
