FAQ - Frequently asked questions about the Berlin Welcome Card
How does the Berlin Welcome Card work?
1. Buy the Berlin Welcome Card directly online here or at one of our many sales outlets.
2.1 Online tickets must be printed out in A4 format and carried with you. Tickets on electronic devices cannot currently be accepted. Online tickets do not need to be validated and are valid from the time stated on the ticket.
2.2 Paper tickets for local public transport (ÖPNV) must be validated once at the ticket validator (on the railway track or in the tram/bus) before the first journey in Berlin. Your ticket is now valid for the specified duration.
3. Visit as many attractions & sights as you like from the list of participating partners. During the period of validity of your ticket, this is your discount authorisation. You can present it at any discount partner at any time before using the service and will then receive the discount described. What variants of the Berlin Welcome Card are available?
The Berlin Welcome Card is available in three versions:
Version 1: as a discount card with 180+ discount partners (classic):
- Berlin Welcome Card - The classic with over 180 discounts throughout Berlin
- Berlin (Berlin AB fare zone, valid for one adult and up to 3 children between 6 and up to and including 14 years of age)
- Berlin+Potsdam (Berlin ABC fare zone, valid for one adult and up to 3 children between 6 and up to and including 14 years of age)
- With a validity of 48 hours, 72 hours, 4, 5 and 6 days.
Variant 2: Includes free admission to the museums on Museum Island:
- Berlin Welcome Card Museumsinsel: Berlin AB or Berlin + Potsdam ABC fare zone, valid for one adult including free admission to the Museumsinsel museums. free admission to the museums on Museum Island, excluding special exhibitions! 3 children from 6 to 14 years travel free of charge on the ticket.
- Valid for 72 hours
Variant 3: as an all-round carefree pass with more than 30x admission included:
- Berlin Welcome Card all inclusive: without and with ticket for the Berlin ABC fare zone, up to 3 children from 6 - 14 years old travel free of charge on the ticket of an adult. For children up to 14 years of age there is a Berlin Welcome Card all inclusive - child.
- Incl. free admission to more than 30 partners.
Important: For journeys from/to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), the Berlin Welcome Card for the ABC fare zone is required. Unfortunately, it is not possible to add a connecting ticket for fare zone C to the Berlin Welcome Card AB
Who can travel on each Berlin Welcome Card (travel options)?
Any number of children up to the age of 6 can travel free of charge on all variants of the Berlin Welcome Card with a public transport ticket.
In addition, up to 3 children between the ages of 6 and 14 can also travel free of charge on the ticket of their parents or accompanying adults.
Prams, luggage and a dog also travel free of charge. A ticket for the reduced fare is required for each additional dog. If you are travelling with a bicycle, you will need a ticket for the bicycle fare.

At the Berlin Tourist Info Centres, in many Berlin hotels as well as at the sales points and ticket machines of the transport companies (S-Bahn Berlin GmbH and BVG). You can also obtain the Berlin Welcome Card directly on arrival at Berlin airports in the arrivals area.
You can then obtain the corresponding guide at the Berlin Tourist Info Centres and at BVG and S-Bahn sales points.
Which areas are covered by the Berlin AB and Berlin ABC fare zones?
The A and B zones each cover the actual city area, whereby the outer boundary of the B zone is largely identical to the city boundary. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is located in fare zone Berlin C. Tourists travelling via Berlin Brandenburg Airport therefore need the Berlin Welcome Card for fare zone ABC to be able to use public transport without restrictions. The Berlin C fare zone extends from the respective city limits up to a distance of 10 to 15 kilometres into the surrounding area. Excursion and special lines and journeys with Deutsche Bahn are excluded. Unfortunately, it is not possible to add a connecting ticket for the Berlin C fare zone to the Berlin Welcome Card AB.
Can you travel to Potsdam with the Berlin Welcome Card?
Visitors to Berlin who want to travel to Potsdam or Sachsenhausen need the Berlin Welcome Card for the ABC fare zone to be able to use public transport without restrictions.Unfortunately, it is not possible to add a connecting ticket for the Berlin C fare zone to the Berlin Welcome Card AB.
How is the validity period of the Berlin Welcome Card calculated?
The 48-hour and 72-hour variants have a floating validity period. For paper tickets, the ticket is valid from the moment it is validated. For online tickets (24-hour/72-hour variant), the ticket is valid from the selected day and time of validity.Example: You have a Berlin WelcomeCard for 48 hours. You validate the card on Saturday at 09:30am. The card is then valid until Monday at 09:29.The 4, 5 & 6-day variant is valid from the first calendar day of use (for paper tickets) or from the calendar day indicated on the ticket (for online tickets) until midnight on the last calendar day.Example: You have a Berlin WelcomeCard for 4 days. You validate the card on Tuesday at any time. The card is then valid until Friday at midnight.

The Berlin Welcome Card Guide is available as a PDF for download. You can obtain a printed guide from the Berlin Tourist Info Offices on presentation of your Berlin Welcome Card.
Is the ticket cancellable or exchangeable?
Tickets that have already been booked cannot be cancelled. It is not possible to exchange/rebook tickets for another day of validity. All details can be found in the GTC.
